Junior Audio Video Technical Operator

NEP Bow Tie is the premier managed services provider for Parliaments and Government Authorities in the UK.

We are looking for Junior Audio Video (AV) Technical Operators to join our team of truly multiskilled operational staff.  This role reports directly to the Operations Manager in our managed service contracts.  The role is based in Central London and could potentially work in our service provision in the Palace of Westminster and or at City Hall and other locations as required.

This role would suit someone who is keen to learn new skills, who has an interest in AV and who also has an enquiring mind and enjoys problem solving.  They would need to be unflappable under pressure, a good team player and confident working in public areas assisting our clients.

Overview of the role:

This role is an entry level position and full training will be given across all Audio Video technical support disciplines. The main duties are the rigging, testing and operation of AV equipment and PA systems during live events.  This is principally a hands on role, which could lead to further opportunities across other broadcast disciplines. Candidates need to exhibit tangible enthusiasm for the work and real potential for learning.  

No previous work experience is necessary but the candidate will need to be able to demonstrate knowledge in some capacity and hands on experience where AV equipment has been used.  This may be through study at school or college or as a hobby where they have used sound and AV equipment.

Working shifts are normally between 07:00 and 21:00 (early, mid, late etc.) but will be subject to change depending on how the clients business is scheduled.  Your days of work will normally be Monday to Friday, but there may be some weekend working.  Should you work more than five days in one week then you will receive a day off 'in lieu'.

Responsibilities:

  • Rigging and de-rigging of audio-visual equipment - this can involve manual handling of heavy items - from lap tops to large screens displays, or radio mics to PA systems.
  • Setting up, testing, fault finding and operating audio-visual equipment.
  • Assisting with rigging, de-rigging broadcast vision and audio equipment.
  • Once suitably trained operation of sound and audio recording equipment, recording devices and other broadcast equipment.
  • Basic operational patching and equipment room set up and configuration.
  • Possible future multiskilling training for operation of manned and remote controlled broadcast cameras.

Skills required:

Ideally the candidate will be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of some of the following

  • Setting up, testing, fault finding and operating a wide range of audio-visual equipment.
  • Operational experience of microphones, PA / sound reinforcement systems.
  • Knowledge of digital and analogue audio mixing desks.
  • Operation or audio deskscapturinglive venue PA sound.
  • Experience of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook packages.
  • Work under pressure in a high profile environment.
  • An interest in news, current affairs and politics - a basic understanding of political issues and how both the UK Parliament andthe GLA work is highly desirable for this role.
  • Excellent communicator - whether by spoken or written word, telephone or email, good communication skills are vital in this job.
  • Working as part of a team, liaising with others and using initiative when working.
  • Maintaining punctuality and a smart appearance at all times, including wearing company or client uniforms if required to do so.
  • A real enthusiasm and desire to learn new skills and new systems and a commitment to deliver a first class service.
  • A mature and diplomatic approach to our clients at our various bases of operation.
